Gemotions

The musty scent of the bookstore did little to soothe Eleanor. Her fingers, usually steady as she browsed, trembled as she flipped through the pages of the worn copy of "Wuthering Heights." The dim lighting seemed to press in on her, and the quiet hum of conversation from other patrons grated on her nerves. She kept catching her breath, shallow and quick, as if she'd been running.

Suddenly, a folded piece of yellowed paper slipped out. Her heart leaped. It was a letter, addressed simply "To My Dearest." She glanced around, her gaze darting from face to face. She felt a prickle of unease, a sensation of being watched.

The letter's delicate script spoke of a secret rendezvous, a forbidden love. The words seemed to echo her own anxieties. She quickly stuffed it back in the book, pushing it deep into her bag, and practically fled the store, convinced someone, somewhere, knew what she'd found.
